Tantra (to cross over and connect) A tantra is a loom, which weaves fibers together to make a fabric that’s both strong and flexible. Tantric philosophy interweaves ideas from two older traditions to form a new way of viewing the world. The oldest tradition is a hierarchy of differences, with spirit being superior in every way to matter. The next tradition claimed that the apparent differences in the material world are just an illusion. All is one. Tantra sees differences as real, but there’s an underlying unity that seems to be hidden, which actually links all things together. This unseen connection is called Consciousness. Consciousness unmanifest is still and void. Consciousness manifest is constantly moving. Movement is potential in the void, while stillness is potential within manifestation. Yoga is an intentional linking of the two, which are really one.
